Strength Train: Chest, Shoulders Arms
Posted on April 6th, 2009 in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »
Since I just got off a recovery week and I have a week before starting my next round of P90X I was dying to jack up some weights. So I decided to work some upper body. Today I did chest, shoulders and biceps/triceps. I just did very basic lifts. I will count this as part of my triathlon training which requires some strength training.
Technically I am supposed to be on another recovery week, but have two recovery weeks in a row is driving me nuts!

Boomer: Next week is my last recovery week, and I’m already scratching my head as to what I’ll do next. It’s a toss-up between doing another round of P90X, or…and this is starting to be more attractive…incorporating dumbbell and cable-gym workouts (I have a Keys Cable Gym),HIIT/Tabata workouts, with Plyo X and (gasp!) Yoga X. After my ARX yesterday, I did a Tabata of dumbbell thrusts/dumbbell swings/box jumps/burpees x 2. Let me tell you…I was wiped OUT!
I read in another post where you did some HIIT. What did you do and is it something you’ll continue doing?
Personally, think it is good to venture outside of P90X/P90X+. Doing the dumbbell/cable gym workouts would be a great idea. In fact, during round 2 of P90X/P90X+ I will be mixing it up between my home and the gym. I intend to use the gym equipment instead of just doing body weight exercises. I will probably stick to the P90X weight/resistance schedule as far as body parts go (i.e. chest/back, shoulders/arms, etc.). One of the reasons I am sticking with that schedule is because I have added my triathlon training and the resistance training schedule will work for me. I won’t do yoga and kenpo x. Although I would like to keep plyo, that may have to go if the triathlon stuff gets too intense.
I think the Tabata/HIIT workouts would be an excellent "next step" after P90X! When round 3 comes around for me, I will begin looking at other programs too.
As far as HIIT, I was doing it on an eliptical and a spinning machine. It is an intense 20 minutes. After 20 minutes of HIIT I would then drop into a good heart rate and just continue working the machine in a non-HIIT fashion for another 10 to 20 minutes. I will probably start doing HIIT again after I finish my triathlon in June. For now I will be doing Interval X Plus in place of HIIT.
So when you decide on your next workout scheme, let me know what you decided upon.
