i30x5: Day 19 Shoulders, Legs and Abs/Core
Posted on February 12th, 2010 in Workout Log | 4 Comments »
I crushed shoulders and legs today. Well, at least for the first 3 rounds. I went as heavy as I could on the delts. They were aching pretty good. After the half -way point the burn got pretty intense so I had to drop the weight quite a bit to get my reps done. I could barely lift my arms at the end of the workout. Legs went ok. I wasn’t able to hit them quite as hard as the shoulders. Legs are always a bit tougher for me, well, except for the calves (which I hammere. I was able to push through to the end. It took a bit of time for me to walk normally.
The plyo movements went ok, and again, I looked pretty uncoordinated with the plank pillars. The plyo clap push-ups were hard after round 3.
Just for a change I decided to do P90X+ Abs/Core Plus. I haven’t done this workout for quite a while. Actually, I don’t quite remember the last time I did it. At any rate, the abs/core workout went well.
After having recently performed a couple of Tabata workouts I have become a big fan of Tabata training. I have also been interested in Spinervals, a cyclist’s high intensity interval training method. Tabata is a natural fit for Spinervals. Check out today’s video pick…

Sounds like you killed it today Boomer!
I’ve been thinking about Spinervals as well. Been really enjoying the convenience of the indoor trainer. It is boring but soooo to get the workouts in. I went to the website and they have so many darn options I wasn’t sure where to even begin? have you researched spinervals yet?
Gotta love it when your shoulders workout leaves your arms hangin’. That’s a great feeling. P90X’s Shoulders & Arms did just that. Sounds like I30x5′s Shoulders & Legs does it as well!
A while ago, I was considering a spin-bike for such a workout. Then I realized that I could get a decent used road bike for the same amount of money. Since you guys have decent indoor trainers, you could probably take this on.
Jeff… I checked out the spinervals site, but while I was interested I didn’t pull the trigger. I can see how a tabata setup on the trainer would probably give the same results.
Steve… The spinning classes at our gym are pretty awesome. I should give that a try. Do you belong to a gym that have spin bikes and classes?
No, I was considering one for my home gym. There was a place that offered spin classes up the street from me, but they’ve since closed. I didn’t want to go the stationary bike route, but after pricing spin bikes, I realized I could get a decent used road bike and a trainer. Plus, I’ve heard spin bikes break down a tad more often than their mobile brethren, probably due to the sprinting and hard pedaling.
In the end, I invested in more hex dumbbells, bought P90X, and the rest is history!
