The knee is holding up.

Last week I got in 5 days of running for a total of 25 miles. I did a spinning class at the gym too. I have a new found respect for those workouts. The instructor varied the pace and even provided intervals. This went on for an hour. I also had an open water swim for 2200 meters.
The knee is holding up on the runs. The dull pain still exists, but I have learned to live with it. I will continue training at my slow pace until the knee gets stronger. If my knee holds out, I would like to do some full-on sprint intervals at the end of next month. For now, however, I need to keep strengthening the knee.

Very awesome news Boomer! 25 miles is a darn good week of mileage! Keep up the great work!
Agreed. You wanted to get into running more, and its looking good so far! The cycling should help strengthen the quads, hammies and soleus groups, which all support the knee.
I’ve been doing some sprint intervals as part of my recovery. I still feel discomfort, but not the kind of pain I had weeks ago. Mentally, I can’t bring myself to go 100% yet. I’m finding that’s a hurdle I never knew existed.
Boomer, thanks for the encouragement and setting example for the over 50. I am hanging in there too with regular exercise, getting better with age and hoping to increase pull up numbers. I have tried the on off schedule and P90x getting to my goal, but easily losing the edge. Researching this more, the next phase is to lose 10-20 pounds. I read from a Navy Seal’s site, that only 10 pounds of overweight makes a difference. Maybe one way of accomplishing this goal in additional to the chin up workout days is adding jogging to my morning routine and later adding some intervals. Please wish me luck. Again to all Thanks…..
Hi Boomer,
Wow, you are doing so awesome! Your miles are pretty high considering you have issues with your knee. Also, great job on the spinning and the swimming:) Just remember to listen to your body and take a break if you need to.
Take care Boomer and have a great week!
Jeff, Steve, Julie… Thanks for the support and encouragement.
Quentin… I have to agree, 10 lbs does make a difference. I could use a 10 lbs drop. Oh, and good luck with your exercises. I am now learning how important it is to maintain a level of fitness going into the second half century! I am only a year and half away from being able to get senior discounts at our local drug store!
Boomer enjoy those senior discounts. In a few months I can apply for Social security checks at age 62. I’m not waiting until 65, for fear no funds then. I know my level of fitness helped recover from a series of kidney stone operations combined with prostate testing and laser reduction. Turned out the prostate was infected causing the swelling and high PSA readings and the laser killed the infection and reduced size. My PSA went from 11.6 to 1.60
How ya been Boomer?
Hey Jeff, I am still around and working out. Pop Warner is in full swing along with the job. Time has become premium. I will post about it.
