I ran 3 miles today. Well, actually I had to walk a few times because of the pain in my left knee and the run was probably more of a jog. Anyway, the whole run was completely in the aerobic zone (duh). It really sucks to have knee problems. Even though I am doing P90X I need to add cardio workouts to the mix. I hope to get an open water swim done this weekend. My son is having his birthday party tomorrow so maybe I will be able to jump in the ocean on Sunday.
Later in the day I did legs and back. Since I had run earlier, my legs did not feel 100%, however, I got through the workout ok. I crushed the back workout.
Yesterday I did shoulders and arms. I used a mix of my Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells and the Tower 200. I had a great workout.
Today I did Yoga X. I feel like such a dufus when I do this workout. I have done multiple rounds of P90X, but yoga is the workout that I don’t seem to do very well. I am still not that flexible (must be all the heavy lifting I used to do when I was younger). I know that I am supposed to get looser over time, but I think I have gotten as loose as I am going to get. Man, yoga hurts! Oh, and balance… fahget about it! I am constantly falling.
My nutrition has been slipping lately. I really need to get it under control. I am still down from my original weight a couple years ago, but my body fat percentage has gone up. I estimate it to be close to 20%. I need to get down to around 10%. Last year at this time I was about 8.5%. I am hoping that if I blog about it, it will help me stay motivated and get on track. I need to, once again, make good nutrition part of my lifestyle.
Alright, nuff said… Thanks for stopping by.
I was supposed to do chest and back yesterday, but I moved the workout up a day to give myself time to recover from doing 103 consecutive pushups. Why did I do 103 pushups? Because Jeff wants to kill me. LOL!!! Actually, he asked for volunteers to join him in the “hundred pushup challenge“. However, he “volunteered” myself and Steve (boxcarvibe). Thanks Jeff!!!
Ok, so I am glad I pushed the workout up a day on the schedule. I felt pretty good and got through the workout unscathed. The pushups were relatively easy to do. I especially liked doing the “heart to heart” pushups (well, that’s what Tony Horton calls them). They are the ones that you do with your hands placed close to each other.
Since the pushups are getting easy I will probably mix in some dumbbell benches soon. During my previous rounds of P90X I sub’d out pushups for the bench with good results.
Back also went well. I used a combination of the Tower 200 and my P90X pull up bar. Instead of doing “lawn mowers” and “pulling up the pants” (again, Tony’s vernacular), I did cable rows with the Tower 200.
The Tower 200 is a great tool for P90X workouts. I suspect that they probably workout well for something like Chalean Extreme too. I know I still owe you folks a review of the Tower 200. Its coming.
After completing the hundred pushup challenge yesterday (103 consecutive pushups), I was just too tight to do my scheduled chest and back workout today. So, instead, I did Plyo X. I will probably do chest and back tomorrow.
Plyo X went very well today. While I don’t wish to do INSANITY again, I will admit that after completing the program, Plyo X is much easier to “tame”. I will probably do Plyo X for another week and then switch it out for P90X+ Interval X Plus. IXP is a butt kicker.
I completed my hundred pushup challenge today with 103 pushups. I was going to do it yesterday, but after my concussion on Friday I decided to give myself another day to recover. I did not want anything to keep me from completing the challenge this week.
I was actually psyched up to hammer out the pushups. When I do these “max” pushup workouts I like to think of them 10 at a time, mentally reloading for the next 10. I felt fairly good when I hit 80. At that point I knew I had a good chance of making it. However, when I hit the low 90′s I was beginning to struggle so I had to throttle back and take it one pushup at a time. When I hit 100 I was going to just stop, but I wondered if I could push past that mental block. So I took a few seconds break at the top and pushed as hard as I could for another pushup… 101, 102, 103. When going for 104 I thought my triceps were going to explode. Before I could get a quarter of the way up my arms collapsed. I rolled over on my back because there was no pushing myself up. Man, my triceps felt rocks. Five hours later and they are still screaming. My lats are also sore.
I am supposed to do P90X Chest and Back tomorrow. It looks like its going to really be a back workout… and it will probably be a cheesy workout at that.
Ok, this is going to be very short today. I had bad fall this morning and landed on my head!!! Anyway, that pretty much canceled out my scheduled workout. Dizzy and lightheaded all day. Alright, ’nuff said. Have a good weekend.
I was supposed to do yoga x today. Instead, I did legs and back. Since I will be trying to finish off the hundred pushup challenged this weekend, I was to make sure I had recovery time from strength workouts. I will do yoga x tomorrow. I haven’t done a leg workout in a very long time so today’s workout was challenging. In addition to the P90X leg exercises I also threw in some of the routines from my physical therapy sessions to help rehab my knee.
Ok, so I went to our state Tea Party gathering that was held at our State Capitol. I was going to get on my soapbox, but I snapped a photo of a woman holding a sign and I figured I would just let the sign do the “talking”.

My wife is a high school teacher and I am a veteran so I really liked this guy’s shirt…

Sometimes I think I should resurrect my old blog, “Right Wing Squadron” so that I don’t get on my soapbox on my fitness blog. Keeping up two blogs can be very time consuming though.
I felt pretty good this morning as I headed to the “man-cave” to do day 3 of my P90X workouts. Today was shoulders and arms. It was fun getting re-introduced to this workout. In my previous rounds of P90X I considered this workout as one of my favorites. I kind of like pounding these body parts. As usual, I felt that Tony is taking too long between exercises. Its cool, though, because I know that the pace is fast for P90X first timers. I can always fast forward to the next exercise when Tony is talking.
With a mix of my Bowflex SelectTech adjustable dumbbells and my Tower 200, I pretty much had all my equipment set up and ready to go for each exercise. This morning’s workout went extremely well. I got a pretty good burn in the delts and a super pump in the biceps and triceps.
I decided to give my knee a break and do another round of P90X (or, at least, do the workouts for a while). I figure I can kind of rehab the knee and take the pressure off of even “thinking” about doing another triathlon until next year. I will probably sub-out some of the plyo and cardio for swimming and biking. Normally I can do plyometrics with my bum knee, but running just pounds it into submission. With plyo I land on the balls of my feet which acts as a kind of shock absorber. Plyo is on the schedule tomorrow.
I did chest and back today. I normally like to have a couple of recovery days between chest workouts, but I was gong to have that luxury. I did 94 PU this weekend so I could feel the effects of that workout today. Actually, the first half of the workout went pretty well, but my triceps were pretty fatigued by the second half. I used to sub out the pushups for dumbbell bench presses, but today I just went ahead and did the PU’s. I figured that it will help me with my hundred pushup challenge which, by the way, I hope to complete by this weekend.
When I “pushed play” this morning, I was kind of worried about the pace of the P90X workout, however, the pace felt slow. It was nothing like the very first time doing chest and back. Like my previous rounds of P90X, I found myself fast forwarding while Tony Horton was talking between exercises. I was taking minimal rest between exercises. It was just as well because I have heard the “tonyisms” way too many times. I know a lot of folks make fun of the stuff he says, but man that old guy is buffed!
When I got home I did Ab Ripper X. I haven’t done much core work lately so I could feel it.
