Insanity Day 58/59 Max Interval Plyo, Core Cardio and Balance, P90X Day 17/18 Round 3 Shoulder, Biceps, Triceps

I am in Las Vegas with my football team so I missed posting my workouts. I will catch up today.

Prior to leaving Honolulu I was able to get Max Interval Plyo out of the way. For me, it is one of the most difficult workouts in the Insanity system. I also knocked out P90X shoulders, biceps and triceps. I used my T.O. Bands. They worked extremely well. I did 250 reps for each body part.

We left Honolulu at 11pm. The red-eye flights can be tough. Half my team was on this flight. The other half came in the next day. I can usually fall asleep on these flights, however, I was pretty restless. I got about 2-3 hours of sleep total. My son slept through the whole flight. When we arrived in LV most of the folks got a second wind so after checking into the hotel we took the kids for breakfast then headed to see the lions at the MGM. We went into the M&M store and the Coca-Cola store to kill time before lunch. After lunch we returned to the hotel. It was about 3pm and I was fading fast. So my son and I took a nap. I had a coaches meeting at 6pm and a team dinner at 7pm. After dinner the kids played.

I put my son to bed at 10pm and did Core Cardio and Balance. I will admit that it was a low quality workout and a half-a$$ attempt at completing it. I was really beat. There was no P90X yoga!

I am pretty much tied to the team during their waking hours. Today, after our team breakfast, we are taking the kids to Circus Circus, lunch and then a practice. After practice it will be dinner time for us. Like most team trips we will be traveling everywhere on the team bus. The kids are having a blast. Coach is happy for them, but tired!!! I hope to get my son to bed at 9pm tonight and do my workouts.

I thought I would post ESPN’s C,mon Man segment for week 16. The video pick of the day…

Insanity Day 57 Max Interval Plyo, P90X Chest, Back, Ab Ripper X

Posted on January 11th, 2010 in Insanity, P90X Journal, Workout Log | 9 Comments »

Well, I am on my last week of Insanity.  I was looking at the schedule and this last week is a killer… but then again, all of the Insanity weeks are killer.  Max Interval Plyo is one of the most difficult workouts in the Insanity program.  Well, at least it is for me.  Today’s workout did not seem as difficult as it was last week.  It was still tough, but I think I am getting more acclimated to the intensity of the workouts.

I also had to do P90X chest and back today.  Actually, I did not do the exact P90X workout, however, I did do a chest and back workout.  I took the opportunity to try out a workout that I am developing.  Anyway, at the end of the workout I ended up doing 200 reps for my chest.  Mostly pushups (including, standard, wide, diamond, military style) and flyes.  I also did resistance band back exercises.  Again, 200 reps for the back.  So I knocked out 400 reps in 40 minutes (20 minutes for each body part).  I got an extreme pump and ran my muscles all the way to empty.  I am trying to get to 400 reps for each body part in 20 minutes.  That will be a total of 800 reps in 40 minutes.   I am not sure I can do it, but I want to give it a try.  I will outline the workout at some point.

Today was also abs/core day so I cleaned up with Ab Ripper X.  I am glad this is the last week of doubling up with Insanity and P90X.

By the way, I got a Bodylastics Resistance Band set.  These are the bands that T.O. uses in his workouts.  He has endorsed them and Bodylastics calls the set the “Bodylastics Terrell Owens”.  They have a T.O. Band site… http://www.tobands.com/.  Take a look at them.  These bands are extremely heavy duty.  They have multiple bands that can be clipped to handles for a total load of 254 pounds.  The heavy bands makes the P90X resistance band look like itty bitty rubber bands.  They are mega-thick.  When I try to curl them, they give me a pretty hard time.  I have designed a workout program that uses these bands.  Again, I will publish the workout at some point.

I have been really impressed with the Tabata workouts that Steve has been doing.  So here is another video of Tabata Burpees.  It is a bit long, but you can click ahead to check it out at various stages.  You gotta see the last set, this guys is wasted.  I give him big time props because he is getting big air during the jumps.  Here is my video pick of the day…

Insanity Day 51, P90X Round 3 Day 9 – Max Interval Plyo

Posted on January 5th, 2010 in Insanity, P90X Journal, Workout Log | 5 Comments »

Ok, today I am slacking. Only one workout. Today I am supposed to do P90X Plyometrics. So I thought I would kill two birds with one stone. Since Max Interval Plyo was on the schedule for Insanity, I decided to let that also satisfy my P90X schedule.

Max Interval Plyo is absolutely brutal! It is more than suitable as a substitue for P90X Plyometrics. To be quite honest, P90X Plyometrics is a walk in the park compared to Max Interval Plyo. You will want to surrender to the Power Jumps, 8 Power Knees/4 Diamond Jumps, Level 3 Drills and the Side Push Ups. Those exercises are nasty!

My body is just wasted from yesterday’s workouts. I had to do multiple workouts… the Fit Test, Max Interval Circuit, Chest and Back, Ab Ripper X. I would not normally do this much, however, I am doing Insanity and P90X. Luckily I have less than 2 weeks of Insanity. So if I can just hang in there for 12 more days, I will be alright.

Ok, so I am watching the Biggest Loser right now. Holy cow, these folks have their work cut out for them. I am always so inspired by the contestants.

I am always up for a good abs/core exercise.  Check out Boomer’s video pick of the day…

Insanity: Day 44 Max Interval Plyo, P90X: Day 3 Shoulders, Arms, ARX

Posted on December 30th, 2009 in Insanity, P90X Journal, Workout Log | 5 Comments »

This morning I did P90X Shoulders, Arms and Ab Ripper X.  Just for a change I used a mixture of bands and my Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbells.  I have these bands where you can attach multiple bands to the handles using clips.  So, in effect, you can vary the resistance of the bands.  I have been watching videos where Terrell Owens uses resistance bands for his workouts so I thought I would give it a try.  I kind of like the burn it gives me.  When I use the dumbbells I can really go heavy for power lifts.  The combination gave me a great workout and I came out of it with a great pump in my shoulders and arms.  Oh, just for the record, I am not a big Terrell Owens fan.  I don’t like his “I-guy” attitude, however, you can’t deny the fact that he is one of the most fit athletes in the NFL.

After shoulders and arms, I did the Ab Ripper X workout.  After ARX I hooked my bands up to the P90X pull-up bar and did cable crunches… maybe I should call them “overhead band crunches”.

I was a bit worried about doing my Insanity workout today because I feel some pain where the legs attach to the pelvis… right around the ball and socket.  In the end, though, I decided to do the workout so I started out by warming up slowly.  After the warm up, things seemed to loosen up a bit.  Today’s workout was nuts, but then again, all the Insanity workouts are nuts!  I did Max Interval Plyo today.   This workout pulls no punches.  Like the other Insanity workouts, there are some strength moves.  I had a tough time with the strength moves because the P90X strength workouts have been taking a lot of out of me.

Oh, what about that pain?  Well, I still have it.  P90X Yoga X and Insanity Max Recovery is on the schedule for tomorrow.  I will probably do some sort of hybrid of the two workouts and do the movements that don’t exacerbate the pain.  I am pretty sure the soreness is due to Tuesday workouts where I did two Plyo workouts.  I just need time to get used to the increased intensity of doing both Insanity and P90X.  In the future I won’t be doing 2 plyo workout in one day.  I will probably just substitute the Insanity workout for the P90X Plyometrics workout.

There a bunch of videos on YouTube showing Terrell Owens working out with resistance bands.  Here is one of them in Boomer’s video pick of the day.

Insanity: Day 40 Max Interval Plyo – Merry Christmas Everyone!

Posted on December 25th, 2009 in Insanity, Workout Log | 5 Comments »

Aloha and Merry Christmas…

I know it is Chritmas, but I need to get my workout done.  So I blasted Max Interval Plyo today.  Ouch!  Ok, not much to say about the workout.  It was the usual butt kicking.

So how was everyone’s Christmas?  We are having a great Christmas day here in Hawaii.  It is 80 degrees right now.  I know, I know, it isn’t a “white” Christmas, but that’s ok with me.  I know that a lot of folks that have moved here from the mainland that miss the seasons, but for myself, well… I like the warm weather.  Although it is 80 degrees, its not humid today so it is just an absolutely wonderful and sunny day.

I bought my son a PS3 so we were having fun with it earlier this morning.  I also bought him Rockband and Madden 10.  I really enjoyed rocking out with him.  He played the drums and I played he guitar.  Right after I finish this post I will be heading to my home office/music room/workout room and play my “real” guitar.  I think I will crank the amp up to about 10!

During my last 3 weeks of Insanity I will also be doing P90X.  So Monday I need to “bring it” and “dig deeper”.  Just to get motivated I decided to view this video I did sometime ago.

Insanity: Day 37 Max Interval Circuit and Max Interval Plyo – Pain!

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 in Insanity, Workout Log | 3 Comments »

Man, I made a big mistake yesterday and I had to pay for it today.  Can you say pain!  I was supposed to do my fit test AND Max Interval Circuit.  Well, I read the schedule wrong and I only did the fit test.  So in order to stay on schedule I did 2 Insanity workouts today.  The worst part of the whole thing is that I just started the second month of Insanity and the workouts are now more intense.  Instead of 40 minutes of gut bustin’ we now do 60 minutes.  Not only are the workouts longer, the exercises are more intense.

Max Interval Circuit is just insane!  There are basically 3 interval sets.  Each set is made up of a variety of exercises that are performed without rest and as time goes by the intensity get progressively more difficult.  Man, after the warm up I was sweating like a pig.  When I finished the first set, I was dreading the thought of the second.  Luckily the second set isn’t quite as difficult as the first.  The pain returns in the third interval set.  It starts out with big time intensity and it just doesn’t let up.

Ok, so I swore off Max Interval Plyo by the time I finished Max Interval Circuit.  However, I began to feel guilty so about half an hour later I decided to give the second workout a try.  I skipped the warm up.  Heck, I was on fire already.   Max Interval Plyo is made up of 2 sets of gut busting cardio and plyo.  There are some body weight resistance moves thrown in just to make you puke.  The first set works the legs hard.  There are a lot of the exercises that involve squatting movements and jumping.  The rest of the video involves some upper body and lower body circuit training.  I was pretty toasted half way through this workout.  I had to rest during more than a few of the exercises.

Ok, so here is my advice… don’t do 2 Insanity workouts in one day.  Well, at least take a few hours between workouts.   I am just wasted as I sit here typing this blog post.

I saw this video some time ago. I wasn’t going to post it because it looks painful, however, since I beat myself up today I decided to go ahead and share it with you folks.
